A genuine connection
Not just any hive — your hive
The QR code on your jar takes you to the exact White House Apiary colony from which that honey was harvested. Each colony has its own queen, character and daily rhythm.
On warm, dry days you may see streams of foragers returning with nectar and brightly coloured pollen. During cool, wet or windy weather the entrance can be much quieter while the colony remains safely inside.

Warm, dry daylight hours
Entrance activity is often busiest from late morning through the afternoon during spring and summer. Early mornings, evenings, rain, low temperatures and strong wind can make a hive appear much quieter.
Pollen basketsLook for coloured pellets carried on the hind legs of returning workers.
Orientation flightsYoung bees may hover in arcs and circles while learning the location of their home.
Hive ventilationOn warm days, workers may fan their wings around the entrance to help move air through the colony.
